Comeslast Kin Sought In Killing Travis Comeslast A Suspect In Murder; Second Man In Jail
Police have arrested a man in connection with a northeast Spokane murder and are looking for an accomplice, the brother of a teenager just sentenced to life in prison for two murders.
Irvin Fentroy III is being held without bail in the Spokane County Jail on first-degree murder charges for a killing allegedly committed during a robbery on Thursday.
Travis Comeslast, 20, also is being sought, police said Saturday.
Comeslast, who told The Spokesman-Review last summer that he was a former gang member, is probably armed and should be considered “very dangerous,” police said.
Comeslast, also known as Travis Moses, is the brother of 16-year-old Kenneth Comeslast, who was convicted of shooting two girls to death and wounding another last year.
Kenneth Comeslast was sentenced Friday to consecutive life sentences for the Aug. 9, 1995, shooting that killed Kendra Grantham, 16, and Cindy Buffin, 17.
While his brother was waiting in jail to be sentenced, police believe Travis Comeslast and Fentroy robbed a 20-year-old man early Thursday.
The robbery victim, Chris O. Gongyin, was then murdered in an execution-style killing, police said. An autopsy showed he died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head inside a bedroom of his home at 1903 N. Regal.
Gongyin’s wife and 13-month-old child were home but not harmed during the shooting.
Police said a witness saw Fentroy and Comeslast leave the house about the time of the shooting.
Fentroy and Comeslast were pulled over by police later Thursday during a traffic stop, said Dick Cottam, police spokesman.
Fentroy was arrested for driving with a suspended license, but Comeslast bolted from the car when it stopped, Cottam said.
Comeslast is described by police as a 5-foot-10-inch, 195-pound Native American. He has brown eyes, short black hair and may have a mustache and goatee.
Mike Burnley, of Spokane, said he saw Comeslast, his cousin, playing basketball Friday at Friendship Park.
Travis Comeslast was arrested in 1994 for firing 15 rounds from a semiautomatic assault rifle into an apartment complex. A month earlier, he escaped from a Wenatchee jail where he was serving a robbery sentence.
Secret Witness is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to Comeslast’s arrest. Anyone with information about Comeslast should call Secret Witness at 327-5111.
