Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: You once printed a mixture to clean grout between tiles. It was so simple, using just a couple of ingredients found in every home. But I didn’t write it down.

My memory has failed me and my grout is in desperate need! - Lila Powell, Jacksonville, Ark.

Here are two methods. You can mix a solution of 1/2 chlorine bleach and 1/2 water. Using a cotton swab or old toothbrush, apply solution to the grout. Leave on for five minutes and then rinse off. Or, you can try using undiluted 3 percent hydrogen peroxide. Use an old toothbrush to help scrub away stains.

Caution: Both solutions can remove color from clothing, carpet, towels, etc., so take care. And be sure the room is well ventilated. - Heloise
