Record-Setting Chiefs Beat Rockets Win Seventh Straight On Road, Set Single-Season Road Mark

Make it seven straight road victories for the Spokane Chiefs, who stormed out of Kelowna late Friday with a 6-1 Western Hockey League triumph over the Rockets.

The victory was the 21st on the road this season for Spokane, breaking a club record.

Six Chiefs scored in the blowout, and goalkeeper David Lemanowicz picked up where Aren Miller left off Thursday night in Prince George, stopping 28 Kelowna shots as the Chiefs maintained their lead over Kamloops in the tightly contested WHL West Division standings.

Spokane led 3-0 in the first period, getting goals from Trent Whitfield, Hugh Hamilton and Jason Podollan.

Whitfield took the puck from Sheldon Souray in the right circle, then followed up his own miss to get Spokane going. Hamilton added a one-timer just inside the left pipe, and Podollan provided insurance off a Darren Sinclair assist.

The teams play again tonight.
