Netscape Cuts Cost Of Server Software

Compiled From Wire Services

Netscape Communications Corp. on Tuesday started selling new versions of “server” software for publishing information on the World Wide Web and similarly-designed corporate networks.

The company sharply cut prices of the programs, escalating a battle with Microsoft Corp. for sales and attention in the rapidly-developing niche of the technology business.

Netscape’s easiest-to-use server program, called FastTrack, will sell for $295, down from $495 for a predecessor program. Its most advanced version, called Enterprise Server, will cost $995, down from $1,295 for the previous one.
