Seminars To Explore Scientific Support For Biblical Stories

Even before Galileo, many thought the Bible and science were at odds.

Then came Darwin. The creation versus evolution debate he started rages even today.

But Dr. John Whitcomb says science and Scripture aren’t at odds at all. He says the Genesis account of creation can be backed up empirically.

Whitcomb will share his arguments at the Bible and Science Conference at Spokane Valley Grace Brethren Church, 12407 E. 16th. Whitcomb will speak Sunday at 9:30 a.m, 10:45 a.m., and 7 p.m; and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Rev. George Christie, the church’s pastor, says Whitcomb’s presentation isn’t overwhelming, though.

“I think he present very clearly what the word of God teaches,” he says. “The average person would have no problem understanding it.”

Whitcomb served as professor of theology and Old Testament studies at Grace Theological Seminary in Indiana for 38 years. He gets around, too - he is a past president of Spanish World Gospel Mission and former chairman of Grace Brethren Foreign Missions. Whitcomb has personally helped establish a seminary in France and a church in Puerto Rico.

Whitcomb has since retired from full-time teaching and now lectures abroad. He also produces taped seminars and has written several books, including “The Genesis Flood.”

The public is invited to attend Whitcomb’s seminars at no charge. Registration is not required.

Magic and message at Pines Baptist

Starting Friday, magician Felix Snipes will perform at Pines Baptist Church, 714 S. Pines.

The show starts at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 16. Sunday, March 17 performances are at 9:30 a.m, 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Bill Pitts, a former president of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, has called Snipes’ act “one of the finest and most entertaining acts of its kind I have seen.”

Snipes isn’t just going to pull rabbits out of hats - word has it he’ll turn someone from the church into one.

But Snipes isn’t just going to do tricks. He’ll deliver an inspirational message after each show. Friday’s program will also include a presentation on the dangers of the occult.

Sale season is here

Want a deal? Spokane Valley United Methodist Church might be able to fix you up.

The church, 10422 E. Main, will host its annual member-run garage sale on Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Members “price it, sell it, and give 10 percent to the church,” says organizer Dolores Coch. “We really get a mish-mash of stuff.”

The church raised $700 at last year’s sale.
