Dollar Falls In Step With Stocks
The dollar finished lower against most major currencies Tuesday after spending most of the day following the U.S. stock and bond markets through their gyrations.
The dollar ended lower against the German mark and the Japanese yen after plunging at the start of the U.S. trading day. While stocks finished slightly higher Tuesday, the dollar couldn’t stage a significant upturn.
By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar was quoted at 105.25 yen, down from 105.41 yen late Monday. The dollar was changing hands at 1.4745 marks, down from 1.4807 marks.
