Liske, Other Finalists On Hold
As expected, University of Idaho athletic director Pete Liske became one of four finalists Wednesday for a similar position at the University of Toledo.
Then the unexpected happened.
Later Wednesday, an Ohio judge issued a temporary restraining order, putting a freeze on Toledo’s search until a further ruling, which could take as long as 28 days or even months.
The judge was responding to a lawsuit filed by The Toledo Blade, the city’s daily newspaper, and the university’s student paper. Both newspapers allege the search committee held private meetings and didn’t make all search-related documents public, thereby violating Ohio’s public records and open meetings laws.
Before the restraining order was issued, the search committee trimmed a list of nine candidates to four finalists. The four are Liske, University of New Mexico associate athletic director Mike Alden, University of Akron A.D. Mike Bobinski and Vivian Fuller, the A.D. at Northeastern Illinois.
Those four were expected to meet with university president Frank Horton, probably next week. That’s apparently on hold.
Liske visited Toledo on Monday.
Hiring
Former Idaho football player Jake Greenslitt is the new UI regional development coordinator in Coeur d’Alene. He replaces Kelly Richards, who resigned.
Greenslitt, 23, was an intern for assistant athletic director Mike Marlow before being promoted.
Greenslitt, a Bonners Ferry High graduate, began his playing career at Washington State before transferring to Idaho.
Football
Idaho’s school colors are silver and gold, but you wouldn’t know it from most of the uniforms UI teams wear. That’s about to change. Idaho football is chucking the yellow pants and helmets in favor of a metallic gold, similar to the color worn by the University of Colorado.
The black home jersey tops likely will have silver numerals. The away white jerseys probably will continue to have black numerals, since silver wouldn’t show up well on the white background.
The cursive “Vandals” lettering on the helmet will remain.
“We’ve always heard from some people who say our school colors aren’t that evident,” Liske said. “This gets the school colors in there. We’ve had some made up and most everybody thinks they look a lot better.”
The new uniforms and repainting of the helmets probably will be finished this summer.
Prep softball
Darcy Sohns threw a seven-inning no-hitter and struck out 12, and Gabrielle McClintock went 4 for 5 as West Valley slammed visiting Coeur d’Alene 20-0 in a non-leaguer.
