Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise: I just wanted to say there is one more use for baking soda that I’ve used lots of times and know it works.
Don’t ever scrape a burned pot. Put enough vinegar in it to wet it. Then cover with baking soda and let it stand for several hours. Most of the time the burned stuff will wash right off. If not the first time, try it again. - Ida Firazier, Palestine, Texas
Ida, you’re right, baking soda and vinegar can save almost anything. There are so many money-saving uses that I’ve compiled a pamphlet on each. Anyone who wants a copy of these pamphlets full of useful cleaning and cooking hints, please send $4, along with a self addressed, long, stamped (78 cents) envelope to: Heloise/Vinegar & Baking Soda, PO Box 795001, San Antonio TX 78279-5001. - Heloise
Dear Heloise: Enjoy your column. I was wondering if others feel this way: I would like all magazines to number each page (advertisements, too) so that you can find the page you want in the upper righthand corner. Big numbers would be great. Also, am I the only one who regrets that mayonnaise manufacturers have abandoned the large (wide) top so now it is difficult to scoop out the last third of the jar, especially for arthritics? - Rida Spross, Rochester, N.Y.
