Knicks’ Anderson Arrested

Compiled From Wire Services

New York Knicks guard Willie Anderson was arrested for allegedly failing to pay child support when he arrived at The Summit in Houston with teammates for a game against the Rockets.

Constables took Anderson, 29, to the Harris County Jail, where he was held in lieu of $130,000 bail. A contempt warrant alleges nonpayment of child support to a Houston-area woman.

“We’ve had the warrant since 1995, but he hadn’t been here since then,” said J.C. Mosier, assistant chief of the Precinct 1 constable’s office.

Anderson remained jailed late Tuesday while his attorney in New York was making arrangements for bail, authorities said.

Denver Nuggets guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was greeted with mostly disinterest in his first home game since his suspension for refusing to stand for the national anthem.

Abdul-Rauf, in street clothes because of a bruised left foot, was not on the court for the singing of the anthem. He waited in the locker room, then joined his teammates after player introductions - with scarcely any reaction from the fans. Injured players routinely miss the anthem.
