Gu Can’t Erase A 10-0 Deficit

Santa Clara jumped to a 10-0 lead and held off Gonzaga 10-7 Friday for a West Coast Conference baseball win at the Zags’ August/A.R.T. Stadium.

The loss was the 11th straight for the Bulldogs (5-16, 0-9), who made their WCC home debut.

The Broncos (18-12, 4-1) roughed up starting pitcher Steve Schorzman (1-1) in the first, scoring four times after a run-scoring double play.

Broncos starter Brian Carmody (6-2) left after seven innings. GU scored three in the eighth, then Jerrod Wong’s two-run double led a three-run ninth. The Zags brought the tying run to the plate, but Kevin Workman struck out.
