Mongolia Calls For Help With Forest Fires

Compiled From Wire Services

Mongolia has appealed for international help to battle 63 forest fires that have killed 16 people and 6,200 head of livestock in the north and central regions of the country.

A report from Mongolia’s Emergency Commission, received in Beijing on Thursday, said the fires have injured 60 people and destroyed 150 gers, the felt tents many Mongolians use as homes.

A U.N. agency said the fires have also destroyed more than 1,500 posts that support communication lines in Mongolia, making it difficult to keep track of the fires.
