Cheap shots at Norman

During the last week, your Cheap Seats sports column has included many tasteless (in my opinion) references to Greg Norman’s performance at the 1996 Masters golf tournament.

I would like to mention that although Norman’s game in the final round did suffer, at no time did he fail to continue on like the champion he is. He did not spit on any spectators, throw any golf balls or break any clubs (although I’m quite sure he felt like it).

It is the nature of competition that someone must lose, and, as I’m sure we’ve all heard before, it is how we win and lose that makes us worthy to play the game. Norman will always be remembered as a great golfer. He may not have a green Masters blazer, but he does have something better … his dignity. Greg S. Long Pullman
