Thomas Muster’s clay-court winning streak ended at 38 matches, losing to Spain’s Carlos Moya 6-3, 6-3 at the BMW Open in Munich, Germany. In another upset, Slava Dosedel of the Czech Republic, beat local hero Boris Becker 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 7-6 (8-6) to set up today’s final.

At Atlanta, two-time defending champion and top seed Michael Chang fell victim to flashy, hard-serving Moroccan Karim Alami 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals of the $328,000 AT&T Challenge. In today’s finals, Alami will play Nicklas Kulti of Sweden, who outlasted Richey Reneberg 6-7 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6).

At Hamburg, Germany, Conchita Martinez routed a flu-weakened Mary Pierce 6-1, 6-1 to reach the finals of the Rexona Cup and a meeting with fellow Spaniard Arantxa Sanchez Vicaro. Sanchez Vicaro blew past Julie Halard-Decugis of France 6-2, 6-0.
