Richard Foster, owner of the Foster Awning Company of New Orleans, frequently visited Brennan’s Restaurant. It was for him in the 1950s that chefs there first topped vanilla ice cream with bananas, brown sugar and rum. To create that dessert now known internationally as “Bananas Foster.”

The Aztec word for “conquered” or “destroyed” was “Acapulco.”
