Dear Heloise: In answer to the question on giving your dog a pill, I have found an easy way without having the dog spit it out.

Wrap the pill in a small thin slice of meat and offer it while holding another small piece of meat above the dog’s head to feed it right after you have given the dog the first piece.

This way, the dog will swallow the piece containing the pill while reaching for the second piece. Hold the meat in a position so it keeps the dog’s head up and make sure it is a small enough piece so the dog doesn’t have to chew it. - Vera Pillers, Spokane.
