Paycheck To Play Bolo’s

The cowboy who penned one of the best known blue collar odes, “Take This Job and Shove It,” plays Bolo’s Bar and Grill on Wednesday.

“Take This Job and Shove It” made Johnny Paycheck a household name across the nation. Although the legendary artist put his voice to dozens of hits, that’s the one song everyone knows him for.

Paycheck’s career was strongest between 1970 and 1981. In that time, the grizzled singer produced three hit songs per year, six gold records and one platinum record.

During the ‘80s, Paycheck faded from the spotlight and quit touring. At the same time, he battled alcoholism. After getting his life in order, he went back out on U.S. highways at the tail-end of the decade.

Today Paycheck continues to perform with success on the road. He once said, “I’ll sing until I’m too old, and then I’ll hum.” Sounds like we’ll be hearing from ol’ Johnny for many years to come.

Tickets are $15 and are available at Bolo’s, 116 S. Best, or by calling 891-8995. Showtime’s at 8 p.m.
