Leslie Carries U.S. Over Australia

Compiled From Wire Services

Lisa Leslie scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the United States defeated Australia 96-81 in a four-nation women’s basketball tournament in Canberra, Australia.

The American national team, gold medal favorites for the Atlanta Olympics in July, stretched its overall record to 41-0 and 19-0 against international competition.

The Olympic flame, slowly making its way to Atlanta, went out briefly when a cyclist carrying the torch wobbled while crossing the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, causing the torch to pop from its holder.

Olympic tickets will be sent out at the end of the month. The tickets will be shipped around Memorial Day, said Billy Payne, president of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.
