Cougar Runs Across Elementary Campus
Students at Carnation Elementary School have been warned to stay out of a nearby wooded area after five adults and a child saw a cougar run across campus.
The big cat was spotted Thursday running between portable classroom buildings, across the playground and into the woods, school spokesman Jim O’Malley said.
Local police and state Department of Fish and Wildlife agents spent part of Friday searching unsuccessfully for the cougar.
Meanwhile, students have been warned not to walk to school or home alone, O’Malley said Friday.
In January 1991, state wildlife officials shot and killed a cougar in Mukilteo after it attacked several domestic animals.
