The Sun Will Stay Up Until August In Barrow
Break out the shades and the 24-hour sunscreen - the sun has come up north of the Arctic Circle and there’ll be no sunset to admire for months.
The nation’s northernmost town entered its long summer’s day with sunrise at 2:49 a.m. Friday. The sun will make a circle in the sky but won’t dip below the horizon again until Aug. 2.
Barrowites didn’t hold any special observances Friday.
Appropriately for the first day of the Long Sunshine, Barrow had a record-tying high temperature Friday. It warmed up to 36 degrees.
