Cougars Close With Sweep
Four Washington State University pitchers, all seniors playing their final game, held the Portland State Vikings in check as the Cougars completed a four-game sweep by beating PSU 6-2 in Pac-10 North baseball Sunday at Bailey Field in Pullman.
Heath McLellan (3-9), who pitched the fourth and fifth innings after taking over for Ryan Post, picked up the win as the Cougars (26-35) closed the season with four straight wins and nine victories in their last 14 games.
The Cougars, with 10 base hits, including six doubles, took the lead for good in the fourth with three runs. Two runs scored on Duane Stewart’s double, while Randy Kaleikilo plated the third run with a double.

Portland (14-32, 5-19) scored all its runs in a six-run second inning and Jesse Travis tossed a four-hit shutout as the Pilots defeated Gonzaga (21-28, 9-18) at August/A.R.T. Stadium in the first game of a WCC double-header.
The second game was rained out and will not be made up, ending the season for both teams.

Julie Fountain tossed a one-hitter, striking out three and walking four, as the Sasquatch beat the Dolphins in the second game of a NWAACC doubleheader in Seattle. In the first game, Shoreline pounded out a 4-2 win.
