Christensen Wins With 64

Dave Christensen of Indian Canyon fired a 7-under-par 64 to win the professional division at this week’s stop of the Athletic Round Table Pro-Am at Downriver Golf Course on Monday.

Christensen outdueled Chris Mitchell of Sun Dance by one stroke.

Amateurs Larry Gelhaus of Pine Acres and Scott Carroll of Avondale, who tied for low gross in the 0-8 handicap division, shot 67 to also tie for third overall.

Four pros tied for fifth with 68s.

Mitchell trailed Christensen by four strokes after the front nine, but bettered that 35 with a 30 on the back nine. Christensen played consistently, shooting a 31 and 33.

Vicki Mallea of Clarkston Country Club captured the women’s pro category with a 9-over 80.

In the senior professional division, Denny Johnston of Sun Dance shot a 4-over 75 to beat Jim Tucker, Pine Acres, and Larry Becker, Wandermere, by one stroke.

Wandermere’s Dan Sesso recorded a 64 to capture low net in the 0-8 amateur division by one stroke over Steve Zalewski of Downriver.

Rick Favor of Bryden Canyon was the low net amateur in the 9-13 division and Elmer Jackson of Downriver took low net amateur honors in the 14-30 handicap division.
