Parade Tips

Unless you’re going to watch the Lilac Parade from an armchair at home, you’ll need to plan before heading out the door to nail down a spot on the sidewalk of downtown Spokane Saturday night. Here are some tips:

Take a coat and a blanket. It’s not going to be balmy; you’ll be sitting outside on a May evening for three hours.

Lawn chairs are good, big loungers are not.

Go early. The best spots on the curb are taken by about 5 p.m.; don’t count on the early arrivals letting you squeeze in at 7:30. Take dinner and reading material.

Scout out the bathrooms.

Remember where you parked your car; you have to find it again after dark.

This is not a football game; be courteous to the people around you.
