Spencer Wins Select Open

Jimmy Spencer came from 15th place in The Winston Select Open to win the invitational event at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Spencer, driving a Ford Thunderbird, sliced through traffic on the 1.5-mile oval, catching and passing polesitter Lake Speed on lap 31 of the 50-lap race.

David Green drove his Chevrolet to a one-lap track qualifying record speed of 129.231 at Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway and captured the pole for the Core States/Meridian Advantage 200-mile NASCAR Busch Grand National Division Series stock car race.

Chad Little was 21st in his Pontiac at 126.373.

In Monte Carlo, Monaco, two-time defending champ Michael Schumacher gave Ferrari its first pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix in 17 years when he finished his qualifying session more than a half-second ahead of Damon Hill.
