Morris, Strawberry Exhibit Skills

Associated Press

Jack Morris pitched two strong innings and Darryl Strawberry went 1 for 2 with two walks Wednesday night in the St. Paul Saints’ 1-0 exhibition loss to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

Morris, making a comeback after a year out of baseball, looked far sharper than his previous outing two days ago, when he was rocked for five runs in one inning.

Strawberry, an eight-time All-Star hoping to use his stint with the Saints as a springboard back to the majors, said he hasn’t been contacted by any team.

“I can’t worry about that,” he said. “I’m just worried about getting my feet back on the ground.”

Morris was not scheduled to pitch until Friday, but met with manager Marty Scott before the game.

“He said, ‘You’re not going to believe this, but I want to throw tonight,”’ Scott said. “That’s a good sign that he wants to get back out there. He’s a gamer. He has those aches and pains, but when he gets in there he’s a bulldog on the mound.”

Morris pitched the third and fourth innings and gave up a run on four hits. Twenty-five of his 39 pitchers were strikes. Morris was the loser in both exhibition games.
