Goose Plans Change

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has revised its plans for the 1996 September Canada goose season.

Early September season for Clark, Cowlitz, Pacific and Wahkiakum counties will run Sept. 1-15. The bag limit will be three geese per day, with no more than six in possession at any time. Open areas are Clark, Cowlitz, Pacific and Wahkiakum counties.

The early season for Asotin, Columbia and Garfield counties, as well as parts of Whitman, Benton and Klickitat counties will be Sept. 7-13. The same bag and posession limits apply.

Open areas for the second early season are: Asotin, Columbia and Garfield counties; Whitman County south of State Highway 26 and U.S. Highway 195; Benton County within one-half mile of the Columbia River downstream from the I-82 bridge; and Klickitat County within one-half mile of the Columbia.

Land meetings planned

The Bureau of Land Management’s Eastern Washingon Resource Advisory Council will hold a series of public meetings on June 13 and 14.

The June 13 meeting will consist of a field trip to BLM public lands in the Odessa area, and will convene at the Odessa Community Center, 21 First Ave., in Odessa at 10 a.m. The June 14 meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park, 303 W. North River Drive in Spokane. The meeting will address standards for health and livestock grazing guidelines and the Interior Columbia Basin Economic Management Project. Public comment will be taken from 10-10:30 a.m.

Fishing festival moved

The Kid’s and Senior’s Fishing Festival mentioned in Sunday’s Outdoors section has been moved to Big Mountain Lake due to flooding of an access road to the Sullivan Lake Ranger District of the Colville National Forest.

Big Meadow Lake is on County Road 2695, 7 miles west of Ione, Wash.Info: 446-7500.

Lake tested by disabled

A group of disabled children from Spokane County tested a newly restricted lake for youth and the disabled on March 22.

Bear Lake, located in a Spokane County Park off Highway 2 north of Spokane, has been the site of the annual disabled kids fishing day for the past 12 years. This year, fishing regulations designated the 34-acre lake for use by children under 15 years of age and holders of disabled-persons fishing licences.
