Sign Up Your Band For Summer Battle

Are you in a band but have no place to perform? Well, here’s your chance to get heard.

The Battle of the Bands is a competition for garage bands that’s held on the last day of KidsWeek, Aug. 17, in Riverfront Park. If you would like to participate, submit a cassette or VHS tape of your band’s music. There’s a three-song minimum and at least one must be an original.

Tapes are due to Spokane’s youth department, sixth floor of City Hall, by 5 p.m., June 25. All band members must be in junior or senior high school as of June (graduating seniors are qualified). Call 625-6440 for more information.

Creative summer: The Spokane Art School has released its summer schedule and there are plenty of classes that would appeal to creative-minded teens. One interesting class is the 10-day “Teen Video Intensive,” a workshop that shows you how to take video beyond chronicling the family picnic.

You’ll create your own art videos with the help of professionals. This workshop can hold only eight people, so sign up early. It costs $110.

There are tons of other classes - from ceramics to painting to African cultures. Prices and times vary. Stop by the art school at 920 N. Howard for a registration form or call 328-0900 for more information.
