New Pastor Takes Over Combined Episcopal Churches

Nina Culver Correspondent

Two Spokane Valley churches that split in the 1950s are now celebrating a merger.

The Church of the Holy Spirit and All Saints Episcopal Church have joined together to form the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.

The combined congregation has hired a new pastor: the Rev. Brian Prior. He begins his new job this weekend.

Previously, All Saints had been without a pastor for four years, and the Church of the Holy Spirit had been without one for two years.

Prior has spent the last 16 years in the Spokane area. He served as associate pastor at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on the South Hill from 1987 to 1990. For the past six years, he was director of education and development for the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane.

Prior received a bachelor’s degree from Whitworth College in 1983 and a master’s degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkely, Calif., in 1987.
