They’re Starting To Copy Clooney’s Hard Line

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Remember how “ER” heartthrob George Clooney is boycotting “Entertainment Tonight” because another Paramount-produced show, the tabloid “Hard Copy,” kept airing ambush footage of him?

“Lois & Clark” star Dean Cain has joined the crusade, canceling a scheduled “ET” appearance. And seven of Clooney’s “ER” co-stars - Noah Wyle, Julianna Margulies, Anthony Edwards, Sherry Stringfield, Gloria Reuben, Laura Innes and Eriq La Salle - have said they will stay away as well.

In a letter to “ET,” the “ER” gang wrote: “We find it very difficult to work with a show and help it earn money while the company that owns it uses that very same money to purchase paparazzi videos of us for ‘Hard Copy.”’ Loose talk

A New York Times reviewer, on “Recreation,” a just-opened play by Penn Jillette: “Mr. Jillette, the big, swaggering, garrulous half of the comedy-magic team Penn and Teller, has managed to create an unintentional illusion: a 90-minute play that feels as if it goes on for hours.”

Actually, most of us know him as ‘Yawn-y’

Yanni turns 42 today.

What would it be like if they ever got cable?

Maury Povich is partial to “NYPD Blue,” particularly actress Sharon Lawrence, whom he says “did me one of the great favors of all time” with a semi-nude scene. As Povich told Fox’s “After Breakfast” show: “Connie (Chung) and I were in bed and the shot comes on. I got very lucky. I really did. Thank you, Sharon Lawrence, until my dying day.”

Which keeps Charles from jumping on her

Back when Prince Charles confessed to his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, she was “bombarded with bread rolls” at her local supermarket, W magazine reports. Today, a friend says: “She is quite happy wearing jodhpurs all day, smoking and joking. Indeed, she is quite happy to jump off her horse and into an evening dress without taking a bath.”

At least she’ll know somebody has read it

The Duchess of York’s “My Story” is being issued in both print and audio form, with the former Sarah Ferguson herself doing the narration.

Albert should have knocked the guy on his can

Turning to other royalty, a former waiter at a comedy dinner show is suing Monaco’s Prince Rainier for “viciously” hitting him in the head during a performance last October. Witnesses said Timothy Ward teased the royal family mercilessly, particularly Prince Albert, asking him “Isn’t it time you joined Hair Club for Men?” and “If there were elections, wouldn’t you be Plumber Albert?”

Guess the star was left waiting for a stretch

And turning to American royalty, when a limo pulled up following a New York City theater performance, Ivana Trump hopped in - not realizing it was intended for the show’s star. Said a spokesman: “Ivana was someone’s guest. She had no idea that this was not the car that had been ordered by that friend.”
