Bill “Cash” Busley Deer Park
Private service will be held for Daniel Bill Busley, 49, at 3 p.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Cremation will follow.
Mr. Busley, a six-year Deer Park resident, died Monday in a one-car accident on Scotts Valley Road.
He was born in Lansing, Mich.
He moved to Spokane in 1975 and to Deer Park six years ago.
He attended Spokane Falls Community College and was a self-employed painting contractor for more than 20 years.
He was also an Army veteran.
Mr. Busley is survived by his wife, Nancy Loudon; a daughter, Sundi Busley, at home; his mother and stepfather, Zora and Charles Hake of Lansing; and two sisters, Carolyn Saylor of Mich., and Annette Tufano of Colorado.
Jean Bedford Olympia
Rosary for for Betty Jean “Jean” Bedford, a former Spokane resident, will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacey, Wash. Funeral Mass will follow at 9 a.m. at the church with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Tumwater, Wash. Mills and Mills Funeral Directors in Olympia is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bedford, 70, died Tuesday.
She was born in Colfax, Wash.
She grew up in Pullman and graduated from Pullman High School.
She married David Bedford in 1952 in Spokane.
They moved to Western Washington in 1965.
She is survived by her husband; four sons, David Bedford of Yelm, Wash., Patrick and Paul Bedford, both of Olympia, and Brian Bedford of Shelton, Wash.; two sisters, Joanne Robic of Spokane and Allene Sever of Moscow; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Bessie Randles Spokane
Memorial service for Bessie Randles, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Randles, who died Sunday, was born in Seattle.
She was a 47-year Spokane resident and was a member of the Shadle Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Helena prior to World War II and worked for the Spokane Fur Co. in the early 1950s.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, George Randles; a son, Gary Slanger of Lynnwood, Wash.; two daughters, Joyce Liston of Olalla, Wash., and Mickey Keys of Spokane; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Edward Harton Deer Park
Service for Edward Tony Harton, a longtime Deer Park resident, will be at 1 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harton, 83, died Tuesday.
He was born in Grand Forks, British Columbia.
He was an operating engineer for a road construction company and retired in 1978.
Mr. Harton was a member of the United Methodist Church in Deer Park and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 370 in Spokane.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean (Burch) Harton; two sisters, Rose King of Spokane and Mary Eder of Oroville, Wash.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Margaret Knight Spokane
Memorial service for Margaret Rachel Knight, 78, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Covenant Christian Church in Spokane. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Colville, Wash., Mrs. Knight died Tuesday.
She married Alden Knight in Seattle in 1941.
They moved to Newport and lived there until 1987, when they moved to Spokane to be closer to their children.
Mrs. Knight was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and South Hill Senior Center.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Linda Allwardt of Spokane and Nancy Skaar of Bellevue, Wash.; two sons, Glenn Knight of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bill Knight of Greenacres; two brothers, Robert Sawers of Edmonds, Wash., and Phillip Sawers of Bothell, Wash.; a sister, Jean Darling of Solvang, Calif., and four grandchildren.
Dick Shimizu Spokane
Visitation for Dick Umetaro Shimizu, 91, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Spokane Buddhist Church. Cremation will follow.
Mr. Shimizu died Monday.
He was born in Japan.
His father came to the United States and brought his sons here when they were in their 20s.
Mr. Shimizu quit school to work and provide financial support for his older brother.
In 1930 he married Mary Sueko Hayashi in Spokane. He was working for Great Northern Railway and later worked on the family farm in Bigelow Gulch.
In 1933 he and his family traveled to Japan, where they stayed for six months. They returned to the United States, to Los Angeles, where he worked in a family florist shop.
He and his family voluntarily migrated to Spokane at the beginning of World War II.
In Spokane Mr. Shimizu again worked for Great Northern Railway and for American Building Maintenance. He retired when he was 65 but returned to work until he was 82.
He was a member of Spokane Buddhist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Aisei Shimizu, and a daughter, Amy Bragdon, both of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
David Best Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for David R. Best, 93, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Wenatchee. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Best, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Tuesday.
He owned and operated several restaurants in Okanogan, Omak, and Quincy, Wash., and was a resident of Cashmere, Wash., for 15 years before returning to Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Best was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruth, in 1981.
Survivors include a son, Darrold Best of Wenatchee; two daughters, Lenora Norris of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Mona DeWitt of Colville, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Edward Willoughby Cheney
Visitation for Edward C. “Ed” Willoughby, 93, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today through Sunday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. There will be private burial. Mr. Willoughby, who was born in Bell, Mo., died Tuesday.
He had been employed as a body and fender worker for a garage in Cheney.
He had lived in the area for 87 years and attended Cheney United Church of Christ. He was an Army veteran.
Mr. Willoughby is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mabel (Hansen) Willoughby; a son, Glenn Willoughby of Cheney; a sister, Edith Hamilton of Reno, Nev.; and two brothers, Arthur Willoughby of Spokane and David Willoughby of Walla Walla.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cheney United Church of Christ or the Cheney Care Center.
Lillian Dressel Spokane
Memorial service for Lillian Alice Dressel, 80, is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ.
Mrs. Dressel, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.
She graduated from North Central High School and Washington State University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
In 1940 she married Edwin Dressel Jr.
She and her husband lived in California during World War II and then moved to Metaline Falls, Wash., where they operated an IGA and general store from 1946-1972.
In 1948 she and her husband purchased the IGA, called Dressel’s IGA, from his father. They also built and operated in Metaline Falls one of the first television cable systems in Washington.
Mrs. Dressel was a member of Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ.
Her husband died in 1986.
She is survived by three sons, David Dressel of Olympia, William Dressel of Spokane and Richard Dressel of Sandpoint; and eight grandchildren.
Thomas Farrell Spokane
Memorial service for Thomas C. Farrell, 59, will be at 4 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Farrell, a 29-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.
He was born in Kearny, N.J.
He worked as a warehouseman for Super Value Roundup.
He was an Army veteran and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Parish, the Brotherhood of St. Patrick, Eagles Lodge No. 2, Teamsters Union No. 582, International Order of Foresters No. 568, Disabled American Veterans No. 45 and the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Farrell is survived by two sons, Thomas and Robert Farrell, both of Spokane; two daughters, Kim Farrell and Traci Williams, both of Spokane; a brother, Edward Farrell of Spain; two sisters, Joan Farrell and Ann Farrell, both of Kearny; and five grandchildren.
Rita Ramm Spokane
Graveside service for Rita M. Ramm, 67, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ramm died Sunday.
She was born in Germany.
She married Lavern Ramm in 1948 in Germany. They moved to Odessa, Wash., in 1948. She was a homemaker.
They moved to Spokane in 1959.
Mrs. Ramm was a member of the German American Society, Eagles Lodge No. 2 and Ascension Lutheran Church.
Her husband died in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters, Leona Risch of Mead and Debra Brosnan of Lindamar, Calif.; a son, Roger Ramm of Spokane; a brother, Werner Westhoff of Spokane; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Judy Hefling Spokane
Private service will be held for Judy L. Hefling. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hefling, 59, died Tuesday.
She was born in Richlands, Va., and graduated from William and Mary Nursing School in Virginia.
She moved to Spokane in 1957 and worked as a licensed practical nurse in psychiatry for many years.
She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Her husband, William Hefling, preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Jeffrey Hefling of Spokane.
