Eagle Eliminates Post Falls

The Eagle Mustangs won the war in the trenches en route to a 38-6 victory over the visiting Post Falls Trojans in the first round of the Idaho A-1 Division II football playoffs Friday night.

In other playoff games involving North Idaho teams, Lewiston topped Nampa 20-17 in an A-1 Division II opener, and Lakeside topped Genesee 58-20 in an A-4 eight-man quarterfinal.

Eagle (9-1) held the Trojans to 222 yards in total offense while rolling up 468 yards of their own.

“They were really physical up front (on defense),” Post Falls coach Jerry Lee said. “They did a great job; they just dominated us.”

The Trojans grabbed the momentum in the first quarter, stopping the Mustangs with an interception by Cameron Christiansen.

His 39-yard return set up the Trojans’ only score. Josh Mort ran for 8 yards, then 3 yards for the touchdown, providing Post Falls with a short-lived lead.

Post Falls (8-2) fell victim to the big play all night both on offense and on defense. The Trojans were thwarted three times on fourth-down conversion attempts. Defensively they gave up touchdown plays of 74, 61, and 44 yards.
