M’S Park Will Open Roofless

The new Seattle Mariners stadium will cost at least $43.6 million more than expected, the roof won’t be done in time for the opening in 1999 and some lawmakers say the public has been misled.

Last year, when the Legislature approved a financing package for the ballpark, the project was estimated to cost $320 million.

Now, despite a cost-saving redesign of the roof, the projected cost is $363.5 million.
