Pluff Has Dream Performance Lakeside Quarterback Has Hand In Six Tds In 58-20 Playoff Victory
Ken Pluff, please wake up. The Genesee Bulldogs, at least, wish the Lakeside quarterback had Friday night.
Pluff was unconscious against Genesee in the A-4 eight-man football quarterfinal matchup, as he had a hand in six of Lakeside’s eight touchdowns in its 58-20 romp in the Kibbie Dome.
Lakeside (9-1) of the North Star League faces defending A-4 eight-man champion Deary next Friday in the semifinals.
Pluff, a junior, had punt returns of 46 and 47 yards for touchdowns, threw for three scores and ran for another.
Genesee (7-3), of the White Pine League, opened the scoring on a 6-yard run by senior Colby Aherin with 8:26 remaining in the first quarter.
Neither team, however, could muster a score for the rest of the quarter.
In the second quarter, Pluff hit tight end Barrett Morris on a 10-yard toss for a touchdown, and a two-point conversion made it 8-6.
Genesee fumbled on its next possession. On the ensuing play, Pluff lofted a 15-yarder to running back Buck Allen for a touchdown.
The Bulldogs couldn’t get their offense moving, especially after senior quarterback Kyle Morscheck twisted an ankle in the second quarter. He returned in the second half but limped noticeably.
The back-breaker occurred just before halftime. With the Knights leading 16-8, Pluff fielded a punt at the Bulldogs’ 46-yard line, eluded two defenders and scampered for the touchdown with 46 seconds remaining in the half.
