Cabdriver Receives Prison Term In Killing

Compiled From Wire Services

A cab driver who pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of his business partner has been sentenced to 26 months in prison.

King County Superior Court Judge Leroy McCullough imposed a sentence at the top end of the state guidelines for Harinder Singh Gill, 26, who admitted shooting Palwinder Singh, 36, on July 3 at the apartment they shared in Bellevue.

Gill also pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in the wounding of Singh’s cousin, Harkipal Kalkat, who also lived at the apartment.

Prosecutors said the two men were shot after Singh became upset with Gill for playing with a gun while intoxicated.

Gill entered the United States in 1991 from India and was granted temporary refugee status after saying he couldn’t return because he was wanted in the slaying of a female cousin, prosecutors said.
