John LeClair continued his hot streak with a pair of goals, while goaltender Ron Hextall turned away all but one Toronto shot as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the visiting Maple Leafs 3-1 Sunday night.
LeClair clinched the victory with his 10th goal of the season, scoring on a power play with 4:16 remaining in the third period. LeClair, who has had a hand in 10 of Philadelphia’s last dozen goals, has three two-goal games in the last four outings.
The game ended with a pair of fights in the last 10 seconds, including one at the end of the game where all 10 skaters and goalies squared off. Hextall and Toronto goalie Felix Potvin exchanged numerous punches, while both coaches exchanged heated words across the benches.
Former Spokane Chiefs standout Pat Falloon scored a goal and added an assist for Philadelphia.
At Detroit, goaltender Chris Osgood turned back 31 shots as the Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2.
Nicklas Lidstrom had a goal and an assist for Detroit, which also got goals from Sergei Fedorov, Vyacheslav Kozlov and Martin Lapointe.
Brent Peterson scored his first career goal and Patrick Poulin added a shorthanded goal for Tampa Bay.
The game marked the Detroit return of Dino Ciccarelli, whom the Red Wings dealt to the Lightning last summer in an unpopular trade for a conditional draft choice.
Ciccarelli, always a crowd favorite in Detroit, was greeted with signs bemoaning his departure as well as a 30-second standing ovation when he took the ice for his first shift.
