UI Students Can Register By Using Internet

University of Idaho registrar Reta Pikowsky hates to see students standing in line, but the Internet should cure that.

With the introduction of new computer software, students will be able to register, check grades and other information via the World Wide Web.

The first service available for students, beginning Dec. 2, is registering for classes on the Internet.

“What I like is that students don’t have to be on campus to register,” Pikowsky said.

While students still can register at computer labs and from their residence hall rooms on campus, they can also complete their schedule on a computer at a local library or from home.

Pikowsky said a group of students had their first run Monday on the new system and the bugs are being worked out.

The school has offered computer registration in the past but only from a site on campus.

Phone registration is also offered and will continue, but it only allows 16 people at a time to register.

Anyone can log onto the Web to register but Pikowsky said the more traffic, the slower it will be. By Dec. 2, she hopes to have upgrades made to the main system to speed up the process.

Students preparing a class schedule can search for suitable courses, times and instructors. By registering over the Web, students can print out a detailed copy of their schedule, which is not possible over the phone.

The Internet address to register is http://www.uidaho.edu/registration.
