Triplett Victorious

Associated Press

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett escaped what could have been a disastrous experience Sunday, rallying to capture the $250,000 Merrill Lynch Pebble Beach Invitational Pro-Am.

Triplett had to drop a 15-foot birdie putt on No. 17 to reclaim the lead. His final-round 73 gave him a 14-under 274 total as he beat David Ogrin by three strokes.

The victory was worth $50,000 for Triplett, a seven-year PGA Tour veteran who has yet to win an event on that circuit.

Triplett started the final round with a six-shot lead.
