Robbery Suspect Found Dead In Camper

Compiled From Wire Services

A man believed to be one of three robbers who held up a Seafirst Bank on Wednesday, then engaged police in a chase and shootout, was found dead Thursday night in a 10-foot camper after a gunfire exchange with police.

Police entered the camper, in the back yard of a home, more than four hours after they first confronted the man and exchanged gunshots. They found the body at 7:10 p.m. after two rounds of tear gas produced no response.

Police spokesman Sean O’Donnell said he could not immediately identify the body but it was believed to be the third man involved in Wednesday’s robbery, a serial robber police called “Hollywood” because of his use of multiple disguises and makeup.

O’Donnell would not confirm the cause of death.

The man’s two companions were wounded and captured Wednesday while he fled on foot into a northeast Seattle neighborhood.

An arrest warrant had been issued for the fugitive, identified earlier as William Scott Scurlock. He is believed to be a serial robber blamed for 13 bank holdups in the Seattle area and two in Portland, Ore., the FBI said in a news release Thursday. The warrant charged him in Wednesday’s robbery.

Two brothers visiting their mother’s house for Thanksgiving discovered a man in the back yard camper and called police.
