Longtime Western Coach Dies
Funeral services will be held today for Chuck Lappenbusch, the winningest football coach in the history of Western Washington University.
Lappenbusch, 88, who also coached four other sports, died Saturday after a short illness.
Lappenbusch posted an 81-62-15 football record over 20 years, including Western’s only undefeated, untied season, a 7-0 campaign in 1938.
He joined Western’s physical education faculty in 1933 and remained until 1975, serving as athletic director from 1933 to 1962. Lappenbusch was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1961.
