Fired Guard Faces Sex Charges

Fired Canyon County jail guard Paul Lewis will be charged with sexual contact with an inmate over a July incident in the county jail, the attorney general’s office says.

A 26-year-old female inmate alleged that a guard raped her in the jail in July. Sheriff George Nourse said Lewis was fired after the incident was reported.

The woman has filed a $100,000 tort claim against Canyon County.

The attorney general’s office said Lewis was not arrested Thursday but was ordered to appear in court Oct. 23.

The charge, sexual contact with an inmate, is a felony.
