Landowners Can Enroll Wetlands In Reserve

Landowners can enroll areas of their property in the Wetlands Reserve Program beginning this week.

Unlike in previous years, property owners now can sign-up throughout the year.

Under the program, administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, landowners are compensated for volunteering to preserve wetlands on their property. The maximum compensation for temporary enrollment is limited to $50,000 per year.

The Conservation Service will place priority on enrolling lands that enhance habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife.
