N. Korea Returns Remains Of Soldier

Compiled From Wire Services

The remains of a U.S. soldier who died in combat during the Korean War have been identified and returned to his family, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

The name of the soldier, an Army corporal, was not released in respect of family wishes. However, a statement said the remains will be buried in the soldier’s hometown on Saturday with full military honors.

The remains were found near Unsan, North Korea, approximately 45 miles from the border, and returned to U.S. officials on July 29 in a formal ceremony at the demilitarized border between North and South Korea.

About 8,100 U.S. servicemen remain unaccounted for from the war in which more than 50,000 Americans died.
