Before the Denver Nuggets held their first workout of training camp - in fact, before they even departed for camp in San Diego - they learned they will be without star forward Antonio McDyess for three to four weeks.

McDyess tore the cartilage in his right knee during an informal workout Wednesday and will undergo arthroscopic surgery today.

Police in Dayton, Ohio, were still investigating a shooting that left the unoccupied vehicle of Chicago Bulls guard Ron Harper riddled with bullets.

Dayton police spokeswoman Chelley Seibert said the shooting occurred Monday night outside the Princeton Recreation Center, where Harper was playing basketball. No one was injured.

Dominique Wilkins, who had a turbulent year playing in Greece last season, reached agreement on a contract with the San Antonio Spurs for the NBA’s minimum salary of $247,500.
