Usc Clears Walters
In a letter sent to the NCAA, University of Southern California officials said a three-week university investigation found no evidence that a ticket to a 1995 San Diego Chargers game given to Trojans tailback Shawn Walters was provided by a sports agent.
USC officials hope to receive a rules interpretation from the NCAA today clearing the way for Walters to return to competition.
USC has withheld Walters from competition and practice since Sept. 19, when allegations emerged the ticket came from an agent, a violation of the NCAA’s extra-benefit rule.
Trojans coach John Robinson said even if Walters is cleared today, he will not play in Saturday’s game with University of California.
