Deterioration Forces Panel To Close Centennial Trail Bridge
The Centennial Trail bridge over Deep Creek in Riverside State Park is closed because of safety concerns.
The bridge - between Carlson and Seven Mile roads about two miles from the northern end of the trail - will be closed for at least a year, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission announced.
The supporting structures of the bridge have deteriorated, according to a commission statement.
Riverside ranger Charlie Korb said the bridge is barricaded, and there are signs warning users of the closure.
People who wish to hike or bike longer than a four-mile round trip should use other parts of the trail, as there is no other way to cross Deep Creek, Korb said.
The panel that manages the Centennial Trail is looking for money to replace the bridge.
