Walters Cleared, But Won’t Play

Los Angeles Daily News

The NCAA cleared Shawn Walters of any rules violations Friday, and the senior tailback has been reinstated to the USC football team.

But coach John Robinson said Walters would not play today against California.

USC had investigated Walters’ trip to San Diego to attend a Chargers game last year. The game ticket had been provided by Melvin Nunnery, who was accused by the NCAA of being a courier for agent Robert Caron when Walters was suspended last season after accepting more than $3,400 from Caron. Nunnery said he was not working for Caron at the time.
