Black Nets Pair As U-Hi Bests G-Prep

University’s Megan Black scored two goals in the first half to lift the Titans over Gonzaga Prep 3-1 in Greater Spokane League girls soccer on Friday.
Black’s first goal came 4 minutes into the half off an assist by Leah Brereton. Black scored again towards the end of the first half on an assist from Sara Streufert. Alli Powers scored for the Bullpups’ (3-2, 7-5). The Titans are 2-2, 6-3.
Ferris’ Courtney Knox and Megan Cummings each scored two goals as the Saxons easily defeated Rogers (0-5, 2-11) 7-0.
Ferris (3-1, 7-4) scored six of its goals in the first half. Cummings scored first with an assist from Christine Rehwald at 10 minutes and then with an assist from Mariah McConnaughey at 15 minutes. Knox, assisted by Angela Faridnia and then Rehwald, also scored her two goals in the first half.
Shadle Park, led by Jennifer Rudder’s two goals and an assist, defeated Central Valley 5-4.
In first-half action, Rudder scored for the Highlanders off an assist from Jamie Winchell. Rudder assisted Shelley Giesa in another first-half score. She scored her unassisted goal late in the second half.
Central Valley’s Amy Cooper had five saves, but not enough to keep the Highlanders from victory.
Mead remains undefeated as the Panthers beat Lewis and Clark 2-1.
Mead’s (4-0, 11-0-0) Stacey Drollinger scored the first goal off a corner kick from Missy Stragberg. The Tigers (3-2, 5-6-0) rallied with an unassisted goal by Jessica Fransen in the first half.
In the second half, the Panthers’ Kellie Leaf scored the winning goal on an assist from Nikki Anderson. Leaf was able to escape the Tigers defense at midfield as a result of miscommunication among the halfbacks.
