Jobless Rate Up In Canada
Canada’s unemployment rate jumped to 9.9 percent in September as the nation lost 47,000 jobs, the government’s statistics agency reported Friday.
The jobless was rate was up from 9.4 percent in August, surprising in light of widespread predictions that the rate would at worst remain stable.
It was the second time unemployment has surged this year. In June, the rate hit 10 percent for the first time in almost two years, but then fell quickly on the strength of job gains in July and August.
