Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I read a column that said to use a metal washer or bead attached to a string in the garage so that you can tell how far to pull up in the garage.

The bead will be hard to see and the washer may chip your windshield. Try a yellow tennis ball instead. It’s easy to see and can’t possibly harm the car. - Ann Masters, Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Dear Heloise: Please check outgoing messages periodically to be sure they are clear and easy to understand. Sometimes they degrade over time and use and become unintelligible or partly so. - S. Wagner, Huntingdon, Pa.

Good point! Also, check your message from an outside line so you can hear it the way callers do.

Thanks for the reminder. - Heloise
