Eastern Washington To Run Cross Country Race Saturday

College teams throughout the region will compete in Saturday’s Eastern Washington University Invitational Cross Country Meet at Finch Arboretum.

The women’s 3-mile race begins at 10:05 a.m., followed by the men’s 4.5-mile race at 11. NCAA Division I teams will be scored as one group, and all other schools will be scored separately.

EWU, Idaho, Montana, Gonzaga, Portland, Calgary, Whitworth, Community Colleges of Spokane, North Idaho College and Flathead Valley Community College will compete.

O’Brien to host fund raiser

Olympic decathlon champion Dan O’Brien will be at the Coeur d’Alene Inn on Nov. 1, raising funds for the Dan O’Brien Youth Foundation.

Those attending will have a chance to hear O’Brien speak, ask questions and get O’Brien’s autograph. The cost is $50 per person.

There also will be a silent auction of rare Olympic memorabilia. The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m.

TV changes UI’s kickoff time

The Idaho-Nevada football game will begin at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday in the Kibbie Dome. UI home games usually are at 3:05, but the game time was changed so it could be televised live in Boise and Reno, Nev.

Soccer

Whitworth College’s men moved ahead of Pacific and into first place in the NCIC by defeating Whitman 3-1 at Walla Walla. Jake Benson and Craig Ito scored for Whitworth (7-4-2, 6-2-2) to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

After the Missionaries (3-9-1, 2-8-0) cut the lead to 2-1, Whitworth’s Kenny Krestin scored his fourth goal of the season to secure the win.

In women’s play, also at Walla Walla, Whitworth fell to Whitman 2-1 after Kolea Andreas-Feeney scored the first goal for the Pirates.

Whitworth, second in the NCIC, fell to 11-3-2, 6-2-2. Third-place Whitman is 10-3-1, 6-3-1.

Golf

Andy Hite defeated Stu Aden 1-up to clinch a 10-1/2 - 9-1/2 victory for the head professionals over assistants and apprentices in the Athletic Round Table/IEPGA Professional Cup Matches at the Coeur D’Alene Resort.
