Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: One day, while following a recipe, I discovered I was out of thyme, so I ran next door to a young neighbor woman’s home and asked, “Do you have any thyme?”

She said yes and proceeded to invite me to sit down. After about 15 minutes of chitchat I said I had to leave to finish my cooking, so if she had the thyme I’d better get going. With a puzzled look on her face, I think we both realized at the same time that she was spelling thyme, t-i-m-e. - Mary Walleman, Imperial, Mo.

I can imagine how puzzled your neighbor looked after spending time with her then asking for thyme again. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: I read recently about using a child’s wading pool to keep plants during vacation, making the watering process by a friend a simple task. My sister (and other family members) have used wading pools filled with ice to hold salads at large potluck dinners, which we have fairly often. - Joy Dean Lee, Indianapolis
